Police rescue four babies from traffickers

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has said it has rescued four babies from traffickers and kept them in the custody of the government-owned orphanage in the state.

The police source said two of the babies were rescued from the home of a suspected child trafficker, Mfon Etuk, in Idoro, Uyo Local Government Area, while the other two were rescued from buyers in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The suspect who aided the police in rescuing the babies was arrested by detectives of the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

A mother, Mrs. Roseline Asuquo of Ikot Akpan and her five children, were also said to have been rescued from kidnappers. A Toyota RAV4 belonging to the woman was also recovered.

Among others rescued were two kidnapped women – Agnes Essien and Mary Abia. Both of them were rescued at Oron creek. One AK-47, five magazines with 60 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, two toy guns, five bags of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, one RAV4 Jeep and one Vento VW car, were also said to have been recovered.

The Police Commissioner, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, on Friday in Uyo, said the police in the state would not relent in their efforts to fight criminality on all fronts.
