Fugitive Kills 2 Female Cops in Greater Manchester and Hands Himself In

The victims died after being lured to a house in Abbey Gardens at around 10.50am. They answered a 999 call from someone — yet to be identified — who said it was being burgled.
As they walked to the front door a man (believed to be the Suspect Dale Cregan) wearing a hooded top opened it and shot both officers before lobbing a hand grenade.
Witnesses claimed they heard at least 13 shots before an explosion.

University graduate PC Bone was killed after being hit in the head. PC Hughes was rushed to hospital but died 2½ hours later. Following the shooting, Cregan is said to have driven off in a BMW. And at 12.30pm, he walked into Hyde police station carrying a backpack — and gave himself up.

A HORRIFIED witness told last night how the gunman who killed the two girl cops casually walked away from the carnage “as if he was on his way to work”.
The man — who looked into the murderer’s face moments after the brutal gun and grenade attack — said: “He looked straight through me — then he just strolled down the road.
“I can’t believe he walked past me like he didn’t have a worry in the world.
“It was just as if he was on his way to work. He is some cold b*****d.”

Cops revealed how suspect Dale Cregan evaded 50 armed cop raids while he was on the run over two previous murders.
Senior officers blamed a gangland conspiracy for helping the one-eyed fugitive avoid capture — despite a £50,000 reward.
Cregan, 29, became the subject of a massive police hunt after father and son David and Mark Short were gunned down in separate gun and grenade hits.

On May 25, amateur boxer Mark, 23, was shot while playing pool in a crowded pub in Droylesden, Manchester.
Following the killing Mark’s dad David, 46 — who regularly wore a bulletproof vest — labelled his son’s killers “cowards” and vowed revenge. But on August 16, he was murdered outside his home in Clayton, Greater Manchester, after being confronted by two gunmen. Minutes later, a grenade was hurled at a house in Droylesden where a family believed to be associates of the Shorts lived.
Greater Manchester Police then named Cregan as the force’s most wanted man — and officers posed with the £50,000 in cash they were offering for information leading to his arrest.

His face was also shown to thousands of football fans on big screens at Manchester City’s home Premier League game against QPR earlier this month.
Mobile billboards featuring his mugshot were also regularly placed in Manchester city centre.

But despite all the apparent sightings and frenzied police activity — including regular raids on the homes of members of Cregan’s family — he remained at large until finally giving himself up at Hyde police station yesterday after driving there in a blue BMW.
