A policeman and an armed robber were killed on Friday in Port Harcourt during a gun battle between a gang of bandits and security operatives.
The anti-robbery squad of the Rivers State Police Command had received a distress call by Access Bank on Olu Obasanjo Road at about 6.30 am before moving to the scene.
It was learnt that unknown to the team of policemen, some of the bandits had laid in ambush for the security agents.
The hoodlum were said to have opened fire on the security operatives immediately they arrived on the scene.
In the ensuing gun duel, a policeman was hit by the bandits, while a member of the gang was also killed by the patrol team.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, said the armed robbers, who operated with three vehicles, rushed the remains of their dead colleague into one of the cars and sped off.
He said the policemen recovered one Gulf 3 car and an FNC rifle, which was left behind by the hoodlums.
