Robbers kill Ogun female varsity student

A 200 level student of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Wunmi Adebayo has been killed in her boyfriend’s house in Ijebu Ode.

The incident was said to have taken place at the Golden Estate, Ibadan Road, Ijebu Ode in the early hours of Monday.

Daily Sun gathered that ‘Wunmi, an English student of the institution, had visited her boyfriend on Sunday evening to spend the night with him.

Trouble was said to have started few minutes past 4am when a four-man armed robbery gang gained entry into their house through the kitchen door.

Thereafter, they allegedly held their victims hostage, brandishing guns and cutlasses and later broke into ‘Wunmi’s boyfriend’s room, identified simply as Taiwo and took him away, leaving the lady behind.

One of the victims who spoke with Daily Sun yesterday on condition of anonymity, stated that some members of the gang later went back to the girl in the room.

His words: “All what we were hearing was plea for mercy from the late Wunmi, but maybe because she failed to cooperate with the robbers she was shot.”

He said it was while they were trying to remove the gold necklace on her neck and she refused them that made them to shoot her on the head.

During the operation, the robbers were said to have raided all the rooms in the building as well as that of the landlord, carting away three laptops and gold necklaces.

Other items allegedly stolen from the house were 10 mobile phones, wrist watches, perfumes and N26,000 cash.

Our source further told us that after killing the girl, one of the robbers came to meet them, including Wunmi’s boyfriend, telling them that they had wounded the girl because she failed to cooperate with them.

‘’The robbers told us to take the girl to the hospital because she had been injured,” the source said.

The hoodlums, it was further gathered, extended the operation on Tuesday morning, raiding other residents in the area and dispossessing them of their valuables, including a Honda Accord car.

The Ijebu Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, Usman Alabi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the story, adding that police investigations so far revealed that the deceased was killed because she recognized one of the hoodlums.

Alabi added that the hoodlums took advantage of the many uncompleted buildings in the area as well as the new development in the area to unleash terror on their victims.

The Police Public Relations Officers, Ogun State Police Command, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, also corroborated the Police Commander’s position, saying that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, had ordered that the matter be investigated.

Adejobi said: ‘’The matter will not go un-investigated. The CP has ordered a thorough investigation, asking both the DPO in the area to work with the relevant departments of the state Command to unravel the killings.”

Ikemefuna also assured residents of the state the security of their lives as well as their property, saying: “There is no cause for alarm.”
