Obama's slumdog brother: Meet the hopeless drunk from a Nairobi shanty town who is the U.S. President's BROTHER

Whilst the President inhabits the luxurious surroundings of the Oval Office and flies aboard Air Force One, his half-brother George Obama lives in a notorious African slum.

George Obama has battled addictions to drink and drugs for most of his life at the same time as his relative has enjoyed a meteoric rise to power.
The 30-year-old, who was once hooked on cocaine, says that his surname is frequently a burden to him.
As a tall, strangely familiar figure leaves his one-room shack in a notorious African slum this week, a few people jokingly call out to him: ‘Mister President! Mister President!’

Heading for breakfast through his junk-strewn yard, stepping over streams of sewage, the appearance of this slim, angular man prompts giggles and pointing from children in rags playing in the muck.

The man’s name is George Hussein Obama and his half-brother is Barack Hussein Obama, Kenya’s most famous son, the first black President of  the U.S. and the most powerful man in the world.

George has also written a memoir, called Homeland. Published in 2012, it details how he turned his back on a middle-class Kenyan upbringing to live among the desperately poor in Nairobi’s infamous slums. The book’s precis tell us: ‘George chooses to live in the Nairobi ghetto, where he works to help the ghetto-dwellers, and especially the slum kids, overcome the challenges surrounding their lives.’

And the book quotes George thus: ‘My brother has risen to be the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Here in Kenya, my aim is to be a leader among the poorest people on Earth: those who live in the slums.’

In what sounds like the script for a Hollywood film, he claims to have been the driving force behind the transformation of a slum football team into one of the top sides in Kenya, known as ‘Obama’s champs’.

Such, apparently, is his devotion to good works that many Kenyans want George to stand for President, believing anyone sharing the name and blood of the most powerful politician on the planet can transform their lives.

But, as I discovered, this may prove beyond George. Indeed, standing — let alone talking much sense or walking in a straight line — is tricky for the U.S. President’s brother much of the time, due to his chronic addiction to drink and years of drug abuse.

Nor is there anything heroic and altruistic about his motives for living in the slums. His principal reason is that the potent local moonshine is cheap and readily available here, as is cocaine, heroin and marijuana.

Clearly following the dictum that the best place to hide a tree is in a forest, George’s decision to settle in a slum called Huruma — which is scarred by alcoholism, drug addiction and violence — means his own destructive behaviour attracts little attention.

Although he claims not to be using heroin or cocaine, George now spends his time drinking what locals call Chang’aa — a spirit distilled with maize and spiked with chemicals — from the moment he wakes to the moment he slips into unconsciousness.

Laced with ethanol, embalming fluid or battery acid to give it more kick, this substance is regularly blamed for causing blindness and death when the criminal syndicates behind the trade mix it wrongly.

A glass costs about 10p and, after just five small shots, even hardened drinkers can barely remember their own name. Regular users suffer liver and kidney failure, as well as mental impairment known as ‘wet brain’.

Barack Obama and his father Barack Obama Sr. at Honolulu airport after the only meeting that the U.S. President can recall over Christmas in 1971.

President Barack Obama, pictured aboard Air Force One, is as far removed in the imagination as could be possible from his Kenyan relative.

The Huruma slum of Nairobi which is scarred by alcoholism, drug addiction and violence - and is where the President of the United States' brother lives in squalor.

Paradoxically, George also moans endlessly about the Obama name being a burden and a curse — yet, at the same time, unashamedly uses it to make as much money as possible to spend on drink and drugs.

‘People are only interested in me because of my brother,’ he sighs, slurping a double Johnnie Walker, with a beer chaser — one of many. ‘I hate it. People all want me to be someone else.’

George first met his now-famous sibling in a playground when he was at primary school. Barack was a young visitor to Nairobi just a few years after their father died in a car crash. George recalls he was playing football when his brother arrived to say hello.

The second time their paths crossed was when Obama — then a Senator — was on a tour of East Africa in 2006, and visited Nairobi to see his family. They shook hands — the two utterly different worlds they inhabited coming together under the African sun.

‘He is an inspiration,’ George observes. ‘We have met a couple of times. We do speak . . . he is my brother.’
As for the President, he mentions George in his autobiography Dreams From My Father, saying he is a ‘beautiful boy’, but admits that when they met as adults in Kenya ‘it was like meeting a complete stranger’.

George says, apparently without a shred of self-awareness, that he is under pressure to follow his older brother’s footsteps into politics. ‘I have got a lot of people telling me to stand as a member of parliament. But I’m not interested in politics.’

Then he pauses, and adds: ‘But if Barack was President, and I was president of Kenya it would be easier to meet.’  He says it is only his poverty that prevents the two of them having a closer relationship.

‘He’s got responsibilities. He’s not supposed to take care of me,’ he says. ‘I’m an adult. Everyone thinks he sends me cash. But I’m not a beggar.’ But asked if he’d take cash if Obama offered it, George smiled and said: ‘Seriously! Yes! Who wouldn’t?’

Though he is consumed with self-pity about his plight, he is, officially, the  co-ordinator of Huruma Football Club, a township team made up of orphans, former prisoners and reformed drug addicts.

Residents of Nairobi's Huruma move along the filthy streets of the dangerous slum.

Despite sharing the same surname and father, President Obama's surroundings in the Oval Office differ vastly from the Kenyan slum inhabited by his half-brother

This is just a title. In reality, he spends virtually every day getting drunk or sleeping off the effects. So where did it all go wrong for the 30-year-old? Of course, George is following in something of a family tradition: the father he and the President share was also a notorious drunk and habitué of township Chang’aa bars.

He, too, had a good start in life. Born into a poor family near Lake Victoria, the brothers’ father — also Barack — was a brilliant student. He became the first African to win a scholarship at a prestigious university in Hawaii.

It was on the American island that Barack Snr met Ann Dunham,  an American academic and anthropologist. Despite the fact he was already married to a woman in Kenya, he claimed, dishonestly, that he was divorced. He married Ann in 1961 when she was already three months pregnant with Barack. But when Obama Snr pursued his studies at Harvard, he continued to have affairs — and split from Ann in 1964.

Eventually, he returned to Kenya — leaving Barack in Hawaii — and his heavy drinking spiralled out of control: after fathering George to his fourth wife Jael in Kenya, he died six months after the birth in a car crash in 1982.

George grew up in a middle-class Nairobi suburb with his mother, who married again, to a white man, a French aid worker — a fact he blames for his subsequent rebellion. ‘I was the only guy with a white father in my street. I wanted to be the same as the other black kids,’ he says.
Despite his brother's role as American President, George Obama says that he has no interest in politics

Drinking and smoking marijuana by the age of ten, five years later he was thrown out of boarding school, where he played rugby and learned foreign languages, for taking drugs.

He admits that after becoming addicted to cocaine and heroin at 17, he became an armed robber to pay for drink and drugs. Living with his ‘black brothers’ on the streets, he was jailed in 2003, accused of playing a part in an attempted armed robbery.

Held on remand for nine months before being acquitted for lack of evidence, George claims his spell behind bars changed him. ‘It was hell on earth — literally,’ he tells me. ‘You either come out of there worse, or you change for the better. I changed. I wanted to help other people.’

Of course, George is not the only Obama sibling to have tried drugs. President Obama was a habitual drug-user in his teens and 20s. He tried cocaine. He was also a member of the ‘Choom Gang’ — slang for a group of dope smokers who used to drive round Hawaii getting stoned.

At college in Hawaii, Barack had regarded himself as a ‘cat’ — a cool character. Known as Barry, he was also notorious for ‘intercepting’ — grabbing a joint when it’s not your turn and taking a puff. The Honolulu Advertiser reported that Obama’s High School picture ‘prominently displayed . . . a package of ‘Zigzag’ rolling papers — used to make marijuana joints — and a matchbook.’

In his autobiography, Barack Obama revealed that he ‘got high [to] push questions of who I was out of my mind’ — a reference to his own difficult relationship with his talented, but wayward, father. ‘Junkie. Pothead,’ he wrote. ‘That’s where I’d been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man.’

Yet Barack escaped his father’s curse. The turning point came one night when, after a college party involving drink and drugs, a female friend scolded him for being self-obsessed and told the future U.S. President that life ‘isn’t just about you’.

He gave up drugs, vowing not to repeat the mistakes of his father. Sadly, there seems little hope of a similar ending for George.

The money from his book — reputed to have been an eight million Kenyan shilling advance (£61,000) — went on drink, drugs and a two-month sojourn with his hangers-on in Mombasa, the country’s stunning beach resort.

And despite his claims that he chooses to stay in his one-room shack, he is only there because he has spent all his money. Friends tell me he used to live in a much bigger house in a better area, and is given the room in Huruma now for free out of charity because he is down on his luck.

All the people in the township know George as a drunk, for all his claims to be a practising Muslim, and friends have urged him to seek help. ‘He’s a madman, really ill, but he doesn’t know he is,’ says Tony, from the football club. ‘He’s in black-out most of the time. We hope the Obama name will help our area. But George seems cursed.’

Obama's opponents are sure to aim to make political capital from the revelations about his half-brother.

Sure enough, when we meet the next day, George is drunk and obnoxious after another breakfast of kill-me-quick — slang for Chang’aa.

Shamir, his two-year-old son, born to one of his string of girlfriends, wanders into the Chang’aa den and sits beside me. We do high-fives. George slumps in a seat opposite, saying: ‘It’s all b*****ks, b*****ks, b*****ks, b*****ks.’

He lurches off and disappears in the maze of shacks and alleys, swallowed up by the slum. His son is taken to be looked after by local women.

Whether or not addiction is genetic, George Obama — like the dead father he shares with the U.S. President — suffers in its gruesome embrace.

What’s certain is that what money he has won’t last. Nor will much of it go to township orphans or ‘Obama’s champs’. It will go on kill-me-quick and who knows what else.

Perhaps, tragically, before many more years pass, another little Kenyan boy called Obama is destined to grow up with nothing more than dreams of his father.

The “Fashion Police” host says having her nails emblazoned with black diamonds was a “once in a lifetime experience.”

Kelly Osbourne is sorry if her Emmys manicure offended you, but she’s not sorry for rocking a small fortune's worth of black diamonds on her nails.

The Fashion Police host made headlines on Sunday for her sparkling fingernail polish, created by Los Angeles-based luxury jeweler Azature and consisting of 267-carats of black diamonds. One bottle of the polish is priced at a whopping $250,000.

On Emmy day, Osbourne tweeted her excitement: "I'm s---ting myself to have that much money on my nails!"

Days later, she’s paying the price -- so to speak.

While clarifying that she did not have to pay for the pricey manicure (“I was just lucky enough to be the one that got picked to wear it”), Osbourne issued a mea culpa of sorts on Wednesday via Twitter.

“I see that my nail polish has offended some of you, however I see your point, but it was a once in a lifetime experience,” she wrote, adding the hashtag #My Apologies.

The Story Behind Kelly Osbourne's $250,000 Manicure

“Please forgive me for not regretting it,” she continued. “It made me feel like a queen!”

And while she’s not sorry for wearing the diamonds, she did express regret over any less-than-thoughtful comments on Sunday.

“I have a big mouth & i know it! I just don't like knowing that I have unintentionally offended anyone! If its intentional I dont give a s**t,” she clarified.

What do you think of Osbourne’s manicure? A once in a lifetime experience or a grand waste of resources? Tell us the comments below.

Two female students of the University of Port-Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State, department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, faculty of Humanities, were flogged on Friday, Sept 21,2012, for gallivanting while class was going on. The dean of the faculty, Prof O. M. Ndimele, flogged the two female students, while having LCS 100, with the 100 level LCS students, at the Convocation Arena of the school.
We have heard previous reports of Undergraduates flogged or asked to ‘Kneel down’ in schools like Convenant & others.
Although the incident has come and gone, one question that would last for quite a while is “why should a university student be flogged?”

See Pics As Lagos State Government Demolishes Mushin Market This Morning

Still in a bid to give Lagos a face lift, the Lagos State Government  has this morning moved their demolition exercise to Mushin market. It is reported that the government plans to rebuild the market and has prior to now informed the affected people through the Iyaloja.
Although Governor Fashola's action is for the greater good, I feel very bad for the affected people, whose source of livelihood has been cut short as it might take a while before the market is rebuilt. Yaba market is a typical example.
I just hope the government gives them an alternative to fall back to, pending the time project is completed.

Davido acquires N140 million home in Lekki

And he's just 20. Damn! :-) The music star just acquired a property in Lekki Phase1. I mentioned N140 million because that was what the property was on the market for but I can't say for sure if that's what Davido paid for it. The acquisition of the house was concluded between yesterday and today. The house is close to where his father also has a house in Lekki.

Former heavyweight champ Sanders shot dead

Corrie Sanders, the South African southpaw who knocked out Wladimir Klitschko in one of the great upsets in heavyweight boxing, has died after being shot by robbers at a restaurant during a family celebration.

The former WBO and WBU champion was 46.

Sanders was shot in the hand and stomach at a family member’s 21st birthday party at the restaurant in Brits, in South Africa’s North West province, on Saturday night, police said. He died in a hospital in the capital city of Pretoria in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said three armed men entered the restaurant with the apparent intention to rob it and shot randomly, hitting Sanders. No other injuries were reported. The robbers took a cell phone and a bag from customers, Ngubane said.

No arrests had been made but a murder investigation has been opened.

Renowned for his hand speed, the 6-foot-4 Sanders was one of South Africa’s most successful and popular fighters after a nearly 20-year professional career.

He retired in 2008 with a 42-4 record, with 31 knockouts. But he was most remembered for the shocking second-round knockout of Klitschko in Germany in 2003 that earned him the WBO title and respect across the world as a wily, fast and clever fighter and powerful puncher.

It is one of only three losses for the Ukrainian and current WBO champion. Sanders agreed to the fight on short notice and was a 40-1 underdog. The result was voted as the upset of the year by Ring Magazine.

He then lost to Wladimir’s older brother Vitali for the vacant WBC title the following year, Vitali’s first fight for the title he still holds. Sanders had earlier relinquished his WBU crown in a seventh-round stoppage by Hasim Rahman after being ahead in their fight in 2000.

Born in Pretoria, Sanders began his professional boxing career in 1989 with a first-round TKO of King Kong Dyubele. Eighteen of the fast-starting Sanders’ 31 career knockouts came in the first round.

Sanders hung up his gloves in 2008 after being knocked out by Osborne Machimana for the South African heavyweight title – in the first round.

Suicide bomber kills three in Bauchi church attack

A suicide bomber on Sunday attacked the  St. John’s Catholic Church in the Wunti area of Bauchi, Bauchi State.

Police confirmed that four persons, including a four-year-old boy and the bomber,  died in the attack that took place immediately after the morning mass at 8.55am.

Forty six other persons, according to the  Public Relations Officer, Bauch State Police Command, Hassan Auyo, sustained varying degrees of injuries.

A similar bomb attack on the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Mandalla, Niger State, last Christmas Day left at least 43 dead and scores injured.

The suicide bomber in Bauch in Sunday, according to witnesses, rammed his Opel Vectra car onto the church gate when he could not gain entrance into the premises as a result of a barricade.

Since the Christmas Day bombing in Madalla and others in the North, worship houses have been encouraged by security agencies to take precautionary measures to secure their buildings and worshippers.

Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, Bauchi State chapter, Rev. Lawi Pokti, said more than 40  worshipers were injured, some critically.

Pokti, “The incident occurred around 8.55am. when the first set of worshippers were coming out of the church and the second session was about to start.

“The suicide bomber came in an Opel  car but could not get through to the church premises so he hit the barricade at the gate and detonated his explosive device.

“He and three worshipers died while over 40 others were injured. Some of those injured are battling between life and death.”

A worshipper, Mr Osondu Chukwu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that but for the barricade, the casualties would have been more.

“The sound was massive. You could  imagine what would have happened if he had succeeded in getting to the hall where service was taking place,” he said.

Secretary of the Nigeria Red Cross in Bauchi State,

Mr Adamu Abubakar, also confirmed that three persons died along with the bomber.

“Three persons died and 48 others were injured. Those injured are now being treated at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi,” he said.

Pokti, who  described the attack as unfortunate, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to be courageous enough to address the lingering insecurity in the country.

“Are Christians being forced to abandon the worship of their God? What have the Christians done to warrant these unprovoked attacks? The

President must wake up to address the problem. We are really disappointed because its like there is no one to protect us against these killings,” he  lamented.

He also called on the Bauchi State Government to intensify efforts at curbing  attacks on their members, saying Christians were no longer safe to go to church.

The Bauchi State Government described the Sunday  attack  as the handiwork of terrorists.

Governor Isa Yuguda, in a statement by  his Chef Press Secretary, Mr Ishola Michael,  assured residents that  his administration  was doing everything possible to forestall a recurrence by intensifying security in the state.

Meanwile, the Joint Security Task Force in Yobe State on Sunday conducted door-to-door searches in Damaturu, the state capital,  and Potiskum, following repeated attacks by  suspected members of a violent Islamis sect, Boko Haram.

The authorities have also imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Damaturu and Postikum.

The Commissioner of police in the state, Patrick Egbuniwe, said the curfew would affect residents of the two cities.

Egbuniwe said he didn’t know when the curfew would be lifted, as the military had plans to flush out Boko Haram gunmen  from  the two cities.

Boko Haram has waged a relentless battle against the Federal Government with attacks on police stations, military facilities and drinking joints, especially in the North East  and the Federal Capital Territory.

The sect has accounted for no fewer than 700 killings this year alone. Its targets include the Police headquarters building and the United Nations office complex in Abuja. Both were attacked last year, killing at least 45 persons in the attacks.

Police accused of killing man five days after wedding

When on September 15, 2012, Ugochukwu Ozuah, married Joan, his girlfriend of nearly two years; family and friends rejoiced with them at The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Lagos.

The 36-year-old man and Joan then stayed at the Whispering Palms, a beach resort in Badagry, for three days for their honeymoon.

The couple’s joy was however cut short on September 20, 2012, when the groom was allegedly shot and killed by policemen attached to the Anthony Division.

Ozuah, an indigene of Anambra State and Mechanical Engineering Graduate of the University of Ado Ekiti, was allegedly killed close to the UPS Bus Stop along Oworonsoki-Oshodi Expressway while dropping his friend off.

The friend, Erikefe Omene, who came from the United Kingdom to attend the wedding said that he still could not understand why the policemen shot the deceased.

He said, “I went to visit Ozuah at his house at Oke Olowo Estate on Thursday. When it was around 10pm, I wanted to leave but he said taxis were not allowed into the estate so he decided to drop me off outside the estate where I would get a taxi. We got into his car, a Honda CRV, and he drove out. As we approached the expressway, there was an ash/blue car that stopped around the same time to drop someone.

“An individual came out of the car which was now parked side by side with ours. Because of the manner with which it was parked, I didn’t know the type of car it was. Policemen approached the said car and I thought it was just a routine check so we didn’t pay it much attention.

“Ozuah parked the car and we both alighted so we could stop a taxi but before he to shut the door, one of the policemen said, ‘Who’s there? Who goes there?’ And shot Ozuah who then fell flat on the floor. Individuals from the ash/blue car suddenly ran behind Ozuah’s car to where I was and I thought the policemen might come around to shoot. So, I ran back into the estate.”

Omene said he went to the deceased’s house to inform his wife of what had happened. He said Joan, and her in-laws took another car and drove back to the scene.

He said upon returning to the scene about 10 to 20 minutes later, he saw more policemen standing near Ozuah who was lying down in a pool of his own blood.

He said, “By the time we arrived the scene, there were many policemen there. The Divisional Police Officer said he just received a phone call that someone was shot. I then told the DPO that it was a policeman that shot my friend. The DPO then asked me to explain and I narrated the story to him. He said, ‘Are you sure it wasn’t someone in black that shot your friend?’

“At this point, Ozuah’s wife started shouting that we should rush him to a hospital. Although he wasn’t moving, his body was still warm. So, we laid him on the backseat and her brother-in-law drove him down to the hospital.”

Omene said he remained with the DPO and reiterated what had happened but the DPO was adamant, saying the killers must have been armed robbers in police uniform.

Omene added that he and the DPO then drove to the hospital where the doctor said Ozuah was dead.

It was learnt that Omene immediately went to the police station where he wrote a statement.

Ozuah’s remains were said to have been deposited at the morgue of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja

At the home of Nkechi, the deceased’s elder sister, on Friday, sympathisers came in droves to condole with the family.

The deceased’s younger sister, who wept bitterly said that Ozuah was, until his death, the only surviving son of the family.

“Our mother gave birth to three girls and two boys. One of our brothers died in 2008 and Ugochuckwu (Ozuah) was the only surviving son. Our father is late and when I got married three years ago, he (Ozuah) was the one who gave me away. It feels like a nightmare that he was killed just days after his wedding and he had no child. Our mother is still alive. What a tragedy,” she said.

Omene, who also wept profusely, described the deceased as a jovial and straightforward person.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said it was armed robbers that killed Ozuah and not the police.

Braide, in a a text message, said, “No, it’s falsehood. The guy was actually killed by armed robbers in a Sports Utility Vehicle, not the police please.”

Criminals pose with stolen items on Facebook to brag (PHOTOS)

Smiling for the camera on a speedboat in Ibiza or leaning on the bonnet of high-performance sports cars, these photographs appear to show two wealthy young men enjoying the high life.

In fact, cousins Aaron and Jamie Corkovic are violent criminals who were behind a £90,000 heist from a supermarket cash delivery van during which a security guard was bludgeoned over the head with a sledgehammer.

Police said the Facebook album showing the pair, from Salford, Greater Manchester, posing with a fleet of expensive cars showed their ‘complete and utter contempt’ for the law.
Aaron, 25, and Jamie, 23, together with accomplice Lee Waring, 23, stole the money after targeting a cash delivery driver at a Morrisons supermarket in Whitefield, Manchester, on March 29 this year.

The trio then hijacked a series of cars as they and an accomplice tried to flee the scene of the robbery when police gave chase.

CCTV footage from the scene showed the gang ambushing the security guard as he made his delivery, hitting him over the head and back with a sledgehammer.

When police alerted to the raid arrived on the scene the robbers – who were wearing balaclavas and gloves – hijacked cars to use as getaway vehicles, dragging owners from their drivers’ seats before making off with the cash.

But officers managed to apprehend the trio and recover the stolen money.

Greater Manchester Police said the security guard escaped serious injury only because he was wearing a helmet.

The album posted on the social networking site features the pair posing with an array of sports cars and motorcycles, often while sporting eye-wateringly expensive watches and designer accessories. Another picture shows the speed dial in one of the Corkovic’s cars taken as they drove it at 164mph.

Detective Constable Richard Castley from Greater Manchester Police said: ‘The offenders in this case have shown that they were willing to use violence to get what they wanted and I hope that this result sends a clear message to how seriously we take offences of this nature.

‘This outcome is the result of a significant investigation by GMP’s Robbery Unit into those intent on planning and executing high value robberies, in a sophisticated manner, where victims are left feeling terrified.’

Another officer said: ‘This was a horrendous incident where innocent people just doing an honest day’s work were left terrified.

Cartoon Of The Day: Amala Tinz...LOL

I choose to use this cartoon today because I find it hilariously funny but true. A lot of girls out there can form ehn?!kilode? The irony is that, the ones who form and make a conscious effort to act all posh are usually not the refined ones. Refined babes, in the real sense are true to themselves. Eating amala, or morsels in public,(if you eat it normally)or on a date, doesn't in anyway belittle you, or make you less of chic. #Justsaying.
NB: Guys, this is not to say, the next place you should think of taking a chic to(because of this cartoon) is an amala joint oo!loool!

Missing baby...

Oluwatoniloba David Obafemi was kidnapped by Comfort Amos on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at RCCG, Central Parish, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.

Comfort Amos is a member of the church choir where Timothy Taiwo Obafemi (Toni's Father) is the Deputy HOD of the choir.

Comfort Amos unusually sat where the nursing mothers sat in church on Sunday and particularly sat beside Mariah Toyin Obafemi (Toni's mother), who is also a Sunday School teacher.

Comfort carried and played with Toniloba and after some minutes requested that she wanted to go give her house-help money for 'offering' in the children's church. She left with Toniloba.

After some minutes, Toyin got unsettled and decided to go look for Comfort. All efforts to track Comfort has since proven abortive.

Wole Shonibare, a church member called Comfort and she confirmed she was in Jabi Park and when she was advised to return the baby, she snapped back at him that she will return the baby. All efforts to speak with Comfort after that has been fruitless. Toni is 9months old while Comfort is 40/41 years old.

She was last tracked to Shendam, Plateau State.

In case of any useful info, contact should be made to the child's parents 08075672060 and 08064966277 or the nearest police station. Please do assist in the search.

Hausa Man In Portharcourt Caught Selling Vulture Meat As Chicken Suya

I came across the story of the man above earlier today, but chose not to share with you guys until I got more details. This evening however, an MDB reader sent me the pics of the vulture suya in question with more information about this man, caught passing off vulture as chicken in the garden city of Portharcourt.
Fate caught up with him recently as he was apprehended by residents of the Garden city, while trapping vultures with snuff in Onne, Port Harcourt.
The man said to be an Hausa man from Northern Nigeria later confessed that he wanted to use them as roasted chicken for his Suya business.
He further explained that he had being in the vulture suya business in Port Harcourt for a long time.
This is just really sad, and I'm just imagining: what it was something worse? I know for sure that the first thing that will come to my mind the next time I see suya will be vulture, *sigh*.

Finally, Proposed N5000 Note Dead, And Laid To Rest

Following the decision of the National Assembly and President Goodluck Jonathan at a meeting held in Abuja, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has finally halted its plan to introduce N5000 currency note in the country.
President Jonathan had agreed with the resolution of both chambers of the National Assembly to put the controversial currency restructuring on hold, saying the approval given for it could be reversed, if it was the wish of Nigerians.
The CBN, in a statement last night in a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Communications, Ugo Okoroafor , announced it was stopping the exercise in compliance with a presidential directive.
At least, Mr president and our law makers seem to agree with the populace for once on something.

Judge says anti-Muslim clip can stay on YouTube

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 14-minute film trailer blamed for protest violence in the Middle East will remain on YouTube, after an actress lost her legal challenge to take it down.
Cindy Lee Garcia, who appeared in "Innocence of Muslims," asked a judge to order the video removed in a Los Angeles County court Thursday.
But Superior Court Judge Luis Lavin rejected Garcia's request because she wasn't able to produce any agreement she had with the makers of "Innocence of Muslims" and the man behind the film hadn't been served with a copy of her lawsuit.
Garcia's attorney, Cris Armenta, told reporters that her client plans to return to court in three weeks with more evidence to bolster her case.
The video posted to YouTube has been linked to protests that continue to rage across the Middle East. The White House has asked YouTube to take it down and the company has refused, saying it doesn't violate its content standards.
While Thursday's legal ruling might further antagonize protesters, the lawsuit had little chance of succeeding because of a federal law that protects third parties from liability for content they handle, legal experts said.
"From the beginning this was a Hail Mary pass," said Jeremiah Reynolds, a Los Angeles attorney who specializes in intellectual property and First Amendment cases. "I think they hoped the judge would have enough sympathy for this woman to have him take the video down."
Garcia is suing for fraud and slander against Internet search giant Google Inc., which owns YouTube, and Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the man behind the video who has gone into hiding since it gained attention.
The 14-minute trailer depicts Muhammad as a womanizer, religious fraud and child molester.
Garcia claimed she was duped by Nakoula and that the script she saw referenced neither Muslims nor Muhammad. She also said her voice had been dubbed over after filming.
Her lawsuit mirrors similar claims made by those who said they were fooled by actor Sacha Baron Cohen during the making of "Borat" and "Bruno." The British comedian was unsuccessfully sued by some non-actors who appeared in his movie who weren't familiar with his outlandish characters.
"Although this is a much more serious situation, the (legal) analysis should be the same," Reynolds said. "It's an act that is protected by the First Amendment."
Cindy Cohen, the legal director for San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation, said Garcia does have a claim against the filmmaker but not against Google.
"The law protects Google here because they aren't the producers of the film," Cohen said. "You don't want a situation where the host is responsible for the content. Then nobody would ever be a host."
Garcia's lawsuit contends that keeping the film online violates her right of publicity, invades her privacy rights and that post-filming dialogue changes cast her in a false light.
"I think we need to take it (the film) off because it will continue to cause more problems," she said. "I think it's demoralizing, degrading."
Garcia said she has been threatened at least eight times and has called the FBI but she hasn't heard back from federal agents.
Armenta argued in court that her client was used a puppet to make the film, and she was clearly defrauded and lied to by the people behind the movie.
"She did not sign on to be a bigot," Armenta said.
Timothy Alger, the lawyer representing Google at Thursday's hearing, said the company shouldn't be responsible for what transpired between Garcia and the filmmakers. He said no matter how someone views the content "it is something of widespread debate."
YouTube has blocked users in Saudi Arabia, Libya and Egypt from viewing the clip, as well as Indonesia and India, because it violates laws in those countries.
Garcia could seek to have a judge grant an injunction against Nakoula to order him to remove the video, but it wouldn't accomplish what Garcia set out to do.
"It would have little to no effect because other websites are showing the film," Reynolds said. "It would be a moot point."

My Twitter account is clean – Basketmouth

Instead of reacting to speculations that he was involved in an auto crash recently, star comedian, Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, has been struggling to redeem his image from the damage caused by some unknown internet fraudsters who have been using his Twitter handle to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The conmen reportedly demanded money from their victims on the pretext of soliciting funds for one charity project or the other.

Basketmouth said, “The car accident was minor and it happened a long time ago. I intentionally tweetted about it recently lest someone else remix the story and blow it out of proportion. I repeat, it was a minor incident that occurred a long time ago.

“About the Twitter account, I am aware that there are fake accounts out there, but I am not the only victim of fraudsters. Concerning the fraud, I have never heard of such a thing. It is news to me.”

GEJ's special adviser on job creation promises to create 5, 000 jobs

Ms Josephine Washima is President Jonathan's Special Adviser on job creation. There's a special adviser on job creation? #ohok! Anyway, Ms Washima today at a news conference in Abuja, promised to create at least 5, 000 jobs for people who are qualified. What she said below...
Last week someone called me and was offering me 5, 000 job vacancies. We are going to have a website where people can upload their CVs. I don’t need to know you; I don’t need to know your face. Just go there, if you qualify for that job, apply for it and be sure that you will be called up for an interview.
We are not bringing anything new. We are not trying to do something that has never been done before. But we are going to build on existing structure and strengthen the labour laws of this country in such a way that we will do away with bottle-necks.
We don’t need anybody asking any Nigerians for a note to get a job from anybody. We will work closely with the National Bureau of Statistics to get appropriate data of unemployed Nigerians

Jimoh Ibrahim is all the rage in Nigerian social media circles these days. And why not? Arguably, the most controversial businessman in the land, Ibrahim recently suspended the operations of both the Newswatch magazine and Air Nigeria. Apart from his legendary business closing abilities, perhaps the most distinctive thing about Ibrahim is his mouth — he shoots when he wants and doesn’t care who is hit by the missives.

We’ve compiled ten of the craziest comments by Jimoh Ibrahim in the last ten years.

Chef Admits To Slow-Cooking Wife's Body For Four Days After Killing Her

A California chef has admitted to the murder of his wife and, even more gruesomely, to disposing of the body in an appropriate fashion: by slow-cooking her for four days.

That’s what a jury is hearing in the Southern California trial of David Viens, who is accused of killing his 39-year-old wife Dawn on October 18, 2009. Investigators were never able to find her body, and new audiotapes being played for the court shed light on the reason why they may never be able to.

According to NBC , the 49-year-old chef at the former Thyme Contemporary Café in Lomita, Calif., reportedly confessed to two detectives in March 2011, detailing how he allegedly used his kitchen skills to butcher his wife’s body. He then allegedly put the 105-pound woman’s remains in a metal drum, added water, and turned up the heat.
